I received this from a friend of mine who received it from his older brother. I question the 'fully tax deductible' part, in addition to the HS using their former student email addresses for this.

Dear Friend of Greendale High School - We need your help and support. Below is our web site address that will describe a new project to Greendale High School. Our goal is to build a new gym atrium entrance through private funding, that will provide improved concessions, better access for those with handicaps, a community meeting place and a more formal area to display the school s athletic trophies. We need your help to finance the construction. Please read and explore our web site, and if you have any questions, call any of the contact people listed. Thanks for taking the time to help us out and if you could please pass our web site address on to all of your known former classmates, we would greatly appreciate it. Contributions to this project are fully tax deductible. website > www.ghsatriumproject.org

Alan - Thanks for the eMail. We have will over $120,000.00 in hard dollar pledges. We have about $40,000.00 in item needed pledges. We have people and companies still seating on the side lines because the dead line date for turning in the pledges is April 1, 2008 and we really didn't get started on collecting pledges until December 1, 2007. The website just went live on January 15, 2008. I will be going b/4 the school board late April. The committee will continue collecting pledges until that meeting. If they say "yes" - then we would start building in May. If they say "no" - then it's over. We can take pledges for one or two years. If you can help us out - we would deeply appreciate it. Please pass our website address on. Thanks - Bruce

Don't know if I'd have an issue with contacting former students via email (I assume they do so for reunions, etc.), but the tax deductible part is kind of confusing. Is the money going to the Education Foundation of Greendale or the district?

But I do wonder why they appear to be so late in the game in starting this now (didn't they know the remodeling was coming?), but reading the following on their web site just pushed me over the edge:

"Currently, during sporting events, the concession stand operates out of a storage closet..."

Oh my, the travisty of having to do that! That's horrible. No student or parent should have to deal with that!!!

Seriously though, um, aren't schools for education and not sports? Seems a few don't have their priorities straight (this isn't just a Greendale issue).

And finally, I see they are selling this as yet more community meeting space. How much does Greendale need? You've got the library, the historical society wants some in their museum, and there is space at the local banks. I also believe there's a community room at Southridge. Is there that much need for community meeting space in the Village?
Joe

Especially agree with you here, Joe, I am all for sports but do folks need to eat there??? Maybe they should just eat at home (like we used to) before coming :!:

I don't think a separate enterance to the gym is a priority for the district.
Especially when 20% of students out of 2500 (thats 500) are not from Greendale. WE are talking High School baketball and volleyball here not NBA or even College for that matter. Haven't people heard the economy is not good. Maybe folks will send their stimulus tax rebate checks?

There was a mention of a presentation in the November 19, 2007 School Board Minutes, but I do not see anything where this was voted on or approved.

Ironic in a community with 50% of citizens retirees and houses that don't sell due to the high property taxes, that someone would be wanting again to sink a bunch of money in a highschool. I am sure this will be watched very close to see where the dollars come from for this project.

There is a Tax payers revolt going on out there in the public. Such as the large turn out for a MPS meeting when they tried to raise taxes 16%. Now MPS has spent $7,000,000 in travel expenses in 3 years. And how about the administrator that wanted to retire with $250,000 in health care and other benefits because she didn't feel "safe" in the school due to a conflict with someone, and thought the taxpayers should pick up the tab. The taxpayers showed had a say in that.

Did you read in todays Sunday paper about the "Incubator" start up businesses that do not gererate jobs, and they are not paying their rent to the tune of $80,000, that you and I are picking up in our very high tax assessments from MATC. Incubation of businesses for 3 years, they are comming and staying for 20 years at rent for 45 cents a square foot. Isn't our administrator on the MATC Board?

I see the Theanniecat is fertilizing the forum again with false information:

Here's a fact: In Greendale, according to the 2000 census, 20.1% who were 65 years of age or older.

Actually, that would be more fertilizer. Here's a list of MATC Board of Directors. See link: http://www.matc.edu/about/people/board.html

I guess that explains why I see houses for sale, and then taken off the market in New Berlin, Hales Corners, and Brookfield as well.

As far as the tax payers revolt, I sure don't see it in the number of candidates running for the Village Board or School Board. Yup, the taxpayer's group is at it again... lots of noise, but no candidates to back them up.

The economy is bad all over, in every state not just here. Still don't know where this so called "refund" we're getting is going to come from. With all the disasters the gov. has had to fund & the cost of this useless war, there must be a money tree somewhere in Bush's yard.
As far as the money being spent on the High School, the remodeling they're doing should have been done a long time ago. If you had taken a tour of the school, you would have seen how run down it was. Good schools do help when selling your house!
