Hope everyone saw the article in the paper today about the other people who weren't happy with all the kids they got for trick or treat from Milwaukee, etc. Looks like there's a meeting this week between the suburbs to try and get the times the same for this year in all communities. Finally!!!

Here is a link to the article. I got a good chuckle when I read it and they mentioned van loads of kids.

Maybe it's time to re-think how we observe Halloween. Nowadays, many parents prefer to limit their kids' candy etc. and especially in the suburbs, there are areas where houses are far apart, and neighborhoods where not many grade-school age kids live (F-section, for instance) so it's very frustrating for a parent of a 5 year old to try to trick-or-treat in his own neighborhood.

How about coming up with something else for the kids to do? Just like when the middle school hosts a school dance, maybe the community could put together a Halloween costume party, parade, play-date kind of activity, which the kids in the community could attend?

If the community hosted this in the gym or on the playground at each school, then the kids from the community would attend, and the people who wanted to see all the cool costumes from their neighborhood could come and look. The kids could have a parade around the playground, or something like that, and leave whenever they got tired of it.

If parents can organize a post-prom party, they ought to be able to organize this kind of thing too.

Or, we could go back to the origins and all go hang out at church :)
