Welcome aboard, #40.

There is a great history to the Village Awards Dinner. On the personal side I have received awards for my years of service to the Village as well as retirement recognition. It is one thing to receive an award in a cold and non-Greendale way, in the Manager's Office or like setting.
So a "cold non-Greendale way" would be, say, being recognized, and awarded, at a Village board meeting which is open to the public and now even televised? I suppose some would find getting an award in the historic meeting room in Village Hall would find it rather demeaning. Or to do it during Village Days. Much better to receive such recognition in a hall at a hotel somewhere else.
I'm also sure the Village manager would appreciate hearing his office is a "cold and non-Greendale"-like setting.

It is an honor to receive an Award For Service amongest your peers at an Awards Banquet, in front of the significant others, fellow employees and Volunteers all of whom keep this Village operating in it's respected fine form.
A but the citizens for whom were served... well, let them just eat the leftover cake?

I like to refer to Greendale as a Family Affair, a Family oriented Community and the Awards Banquet continues the tradition of the Village's Family set forth some forty years ago.
It's family, except for when it comes to celebrating accomplishments or service recognition, eh?
FYI, and according to an article on
GreendaleNOW.com, the police department will be having a retirement party for Capt. Randy
Pruss on January 30.
If you are part of Greendale government, is it just one on-going party?
