Welcome aboard, #40.

There is a great history to the Village Awards Dinner. On the personal side I have received awards for my years of service to the Village as well as retirement recognition. It is one thing to receive an award in a cold and non-Greendale way, in the Manager's Office or like setting.

So a "cold non-Greendale way" would be, say, being recognized, and awarded, at a Village board meeting which is open to the public and now even televised? I suppose some would find getting an award in the historic meeting room in Village Hall would find it rather demeaning. Or to do it during Village Days. Much better to receive such recognition in a hall at a hotel somewhere else.

I'm also sure the Village manager would appreciate hearing his office is a "cold and non-Greendale"-like setting.

It is an honor to receive an Award For Service amongest your peers at an Awards Banquet, in front of the significant others, fellow employees and Volunteers all of whom keep this Village operating in it's respected fine form.

A but the citizens for whom were served... well, let them just eat the leftover cake?

I like to refer to Greendale as a Family Affair, a Family oriented Community and the Awards Banquet continues the tradition of the Village's Family set forth some forty years ago.

It's family, except for when it comes to celebrating accomplishments or service recognition, eh?

FYI, and according to an article on GreendaleNOW.com, the police department will be having a retirement party for Capt. Randy
Pruss on January 30.

If you are part of Greendale government, is it just one on-going party?

Joe: The GPD is not having a retirement party for Capt. Pruss, the membership of the Police Department is having a well deserved party to honor a fellow Officer for his service, leadership and comradery and to wish him well in his retirement.

Seems like the membership of the police department is "the" Greendale Police Department. Same difference.

Frankly Smith, unless it's on the website, you can't seem to get any information electronically from Village Hall.

I can assure you that many people have trouble getting (have even been flatout stone-walled from getting) public record documents from various governmental bodies in Greendale. LOTS of great public servants have we, some are not.

Well, Smith, I got the information I requested on this (and some more documentation on the Historical Society) from Village Hall. Cost me $5.75 in copying costs and took about three weeks (there were holidays in there).

Haven't gone through and counted everyone who attended, but from the eight legal size sheets of the 2009 Annual Recognition Dinner - List of Attendees, I got the following:
- 116 employees, 83 volunteers, and 41 retirees for total of 240 were invited - that does not appear to include guests
- all of the village board attended, although Sikorski may not have - he had a different check by his name
- both past village presidents, Jerry Meyers and Scott Leonard, attended (oddly, Bernie Schroedl isn't listed in that category, but did attend as a member of the plan commission)
- it appears all 41 retirees attended

Did you know the village has two attorneys?

If you'd like to know if anyone in particular attended, let me know and I'll see if I can find them in the list.
