Well, I am very thankful for all of the volunteers and the hard work that goes on throughout the year in the village. I believe it is well-deserved. I think jsonline/greendalenow wasted a LOT more money in work overhead for people to read that article.:bigsmurf:

A LOT more money than who/what wasted?

Well it is their money to waste, though.

How many d :) llars do you suppose they wasted :?:

I think this party was well deserved. If you figure it out, the population is about 14,000-15,000 people which amounts to about $2.00 a person. With the services we get that's not bad.
Our public works dept. is always on time with garbage pickup. And lots of other suburbs have to pay for the dump, etc.
So appreciate what Greendale has.

Here's another list that might help you obtain the list you seek:

John R. Hermes
Village President
Greendale Village Hall

Greendale, WI 53129
Telephone: (414) 423-2100
Fax: (414) 423-2107

[snip to keep the quote short]

Thanks, Smith, but I have all that contact information, including email addresses. Just have to see who I can get it from, or if I have to go the usual route of an open records request.

I did learn tonight that 250 were invited, but only 140 attended. And since they couldn't find a place in Greendale that holds 250, they went to the Clarion.

Hmm, but think that $2 per person could've gone to the 4th of July parade, which everyone can use, and not a party which only 140 can use.

You may be paying to dump at the Village's yard in the not to distance future.

Perhaps those employees should appreciate what they have... unlike their counterparts in many neighboring communities they haven't been furloughed.

Glad to help.

Are you suggesting that you might have to do something as formal as make an open records request to get some information that could be transferred to you in about two seconds by email? You don't really think you'd have to formally request something so ordinary, so mundane, routine so unimportant as a list such as his do you?

You know who's really great down there? It's the Water and Sewer guys. Have dealt with them numerous times over the years and, though there have been personnel changes over the years (retirement, I suppose) they are consistently more than helpful, polite and really personable. I think they are the hardest working guys (I've only seen men) in all of Village Government. What else do you get for your tax money that you consider worth it, er ,uh, um, "not bad?"

As for the propriety of money spent to entertain the volunteers I think we'd have to judge the money spent to entertain them against the (necessary) value that they provide by their volunteering. I'm very supportive of volunteering, generally. But, recall, there's a reason it's called volunteering and that's because people are serving with no expectation of compensation. A party is compensation of a sort. Again, did we get more than 8400 dollars worth of effort/savings from these volunteers regarding NECESSARY services? I think that's a pretty good place to start judging the propriety of this event.

$2.00 per person might not be the same as $2.00 per household.

And $8,400 for a dinner for 250 people is $33.60 per attendee.
If only 140 attended then it's $60 per attendee.

Sounds a bit pricey in my opinion...

From my experience, hotels charge for the total number of attendees that the client reserves, in this case 250.

If 140 people attended, the money for 110 dinners were wasted (let's hope 110 portions of food weren't wasted too). If the dinner price was around $28 per person, that would mean a little over $3,000 was paid to the hotel for the no-shows. The rest went to the free bar etc.

There is a great history to the Village Awards Dinner. On the personal side I have received awards for my years of service to the Village as well as retirement recognition. It is one thing to receive an award in a cold and non-Greendale way, in the Manager's Office or like setting.
It is an honor to receive an Award For Service amongest your peers at an Awards Banquet, in front of the significant others, fellow employees and Volunteers all of whom keep this Village operating in it's respected fine form. I like to refer to Greendale as a Family Affair, a Family oriented Community and the Awards Banquet continues the tradition of the Village's Family set forth some forty years ago.

The MJS article said 180 attended, a trustee told me 250 were invited (that included police, fire, school, etc. and volunteers) and there was no place in Greendale that could hold that many, aside from the high school, and then the food would have to be catered. He thought 140-150 attended (I'm guessing you had to RSVP). I am trying to get a list of names of those who attended so we'll have an exact number then. I made the request on Friday, 12/18, and I guess they are reviewing it now for how much it will cost to copy. Considering this party was paid for with public funds, I'm hoping that information is available.

Frankly Smith, unless it's on the website, you can't seem to get any information electronically from Village Hall.
