According to an article in today's MJS, it seems the Village's elected officials, employees, volunteers, and their guests, partied like it was 1999 in 2009 on Friday. The party was at the Clarion Hotel & Conference center by the airport (I guess any Greendale-based establishment wasn't good enough) and will cost taxpayers around $8,400.

President Hermes justifies it by saying, "We're a very special community, and there's many reasons that we are, but a true reason that we are is our employees and our volunteers."

Somehow, "very special community" is starting to sound Brookfield-snobish.

Naturally, the Greendale Taxpayers Group had something to say about it... but then I'm still waiting for all that dirt they were supposed to have on the school district a few years back.

According to the (not scientific) poll, 55% think it's a good idea. Of course that 55% could be the same people who got wined and dined.

It's good to be the king! or employees, volunteers and friends of the :king:

Easy to see why this feast was not held in Greendale. The peasants would have their grubby sad faces pressed to the window while the upper crust party the night away. (Besides, property tax invoices are going out.) Sneak off to the Clarion with thee!

+Spending thousands on a dinner shows insensitivity in difficult economic times. Give them a certificate of appreciation. :bigsmurf:

I wonder who has a list of those who attended this festive event.

Sorry but "True Reason"? Not true. Take it down a notch both in hubris and expenditures.

The opinion poll has changed course...

Well, I am very thankful for all of the volunteers and the hard work that goes on throughout the year in the village. I believe it is well-deserved. I think jsonline/greendalenow wasted a LOT more money in work overhead for people to read that article.:bigsmurf:

Statistically speaking, I would take that poll with a BIG grain of salt. As of 5:50 p.m. the poll showed a big swing in favor of the Village event. If we compare the numbers from 11 a.m. posted above, we find the following:

The "Yes" response stood at 39-percent at 11 a.m. At 5:50 p.m. it had jumped to 51%. Or, an increase of 198 votes.

The "No" response had stood at 60-percent at 11 a.m. At 5:50 p.m. it had fallen to 48-percent. Seeing an increase of only 10 votes.

You can draw whatever conclusions you like, but I am very skeptical of this "unscientific poll" as it is quite easy to play the system on a poll of this nature.

Considering you can vote as many times as you want in that pollI think ballot stuffing can account for a lot. The software here allows for more unbiased polling.
