They better start putting some money into Southridge to improve it or it won't be around.

OK, what would you put money into? How about this, put money into lower rent so more stores can be in there?

Remember Northridge???

Yes, I remember Northridge, Capital Court, Southgate and even Parkland Mall.

If Southridge ends up closing, that means our taxes will really go up and no one wants that to happen. So let's hope they figure something out to make money over there.

Does anybody have the "total cost of ownership" figures: taxes realized versus costs incurred, to clarify just what the Mall means to the village finances?

In October President Hermes stated that a developer of a senior living facility was interested in the parcel on the SE corner of Southridge, and that it would be on the "fast track". So when the plan commission scheduled a special meeting for the 22nd, I thought this would be it. Well, instead it was for a land division to make the land more marketable (it would add three additional lots - with one dividing line being where Northway would be extended). Simon will have to submit a certified survey map (CSM) which would be in effect for 180 days (the normal two years isn't needed). What's funny is that during the discussion, the plan commission kept saying they didn't know what was going to go in any of these new "lots", retail and restaurant use was mentioned, but nothing of senior housing. In fact, I got the impression the plan commission was trying to be as vague as possible.

Which made me wonder, if there's nothing specific, then why the rush with the special meetings?

And then the Village manager mentioned the Village board may want to consider a TIF district for the area in the future. If Simon Properties had $2.3 billion to spend on 22 new properties, I don't think there needs to be taxpayer monies used on infrastructure.

In a short conversation with the building inspector, I asked if the CSMs would be put on the web site. His response was, "We don't normally put those items on the web site." Considering Greendale is pretty well developed, and there shouldn't be a whole lot of CSMs changing, posting them online shouldn't be a problem. You can view a copy of it on the bulletin board in the back hall at Village Hall.

The public hearing on this matter will be the 29th before the Village board's special meeting at 7 p.m.
